Dean James Raczynski (Arkansas) led the DrPH Concept Identification and Specification Task Force Meeting, held in Atlanta, GA on February 21-22. Attendees were broken into groups and all groups were charged to:

Provide input regarding potential competency domains, if applicable, for the identified core competencies;

Identify 6-12 core competencies essential for success as a DrPH;

Specify 4-6 behaviorally-based and measurable sub-competencies that would indicate proficiency in each core competency; and

Identify model development process considerations for future workgroups. |

ASPH invited practice partners, DrPH graduates of member schools, and members to a DrPH Consensus Conference (November 2, 2007) in Washington, DC. A Conference Summary and Final Report is released post-meeting.

ASPH developed a DrPH Main Committee and a DrPH Steering Committee, both chaired by Dean James Raczynski (Arkansas), to preliminarily:

Summarize the consensus that appears to be present among schools of public health about what a DrPH curriculum should address while recognizing that this consensus is not meant to be prescriptive and does not set a standard to which all DrPH programs should conform;

Develop a format for directors for DrPH programs to interact and exchange information; and
-
Consider developing a set of core competencies for the DrPH which could provide a more consistent understanding of the qualifications of those who earn the degree. |
