Since its founding in 1941, the University of Michigan School of Public Health has been a national leader in education and research. Our mission is to create and disseminate knowledge with the aim of preventing disease and promoting the health of populations. We are especially concerned with the poor, often minority populations, who suffer disproportionately from illness and disability. Graduates of the school serve major roles in the U.S. and around the globe in efforts to create a safer, healthier world.
Courses of study at Michigan SPH are organized around five departments: Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Behavior and Health Education, and Health Management and Policy. Degrees offered include Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA), and Master of Science (MS). PhDs are also offered in every department. Interdepartmental programs include Public Health Genetics and Global Health. Executive Masters programs (one weekend a month) are offered in Environmental Health, Health Management and Policy, and Clinical Research and Statistical Design. New for fall 2008 is a 16-credit-hour distance-learning Certificate in the Foundations of Public Health, designed for working professionals, lifelong learners, and more.
Michigan SPH's modern facilities are located in the center of the University of Michigan campus, helping it serve as a crossroads for the biological, physical, social, and managerial sciences. Dual degree programs are offered with highly regarded UM schools of business, social work, medicine, public policy, engineering, nursing, and law. |
