| The University of Washington School of Public Health is a leader in academic advances and professional education in public health sciences and public health practice. We are the only School of Public Health west of Minneapolis and north of Berkeley. Programs within the School of Public Health draw from clinical, basic, quantitative, and social sciences to deal with health and disease within communities. The emphasis is on preventing or ameliorating disease and promoting health among population groups; this emphasis contrasts with the single-patient orientation of other health professional schools. Degree programs are designed to produce academicians qualified in research and teaching, highly trained practitioners, innovative leaders in community health capable of shaping the structure and policies of public health, and environmental health specialists. The programs are characterized by their dependence on the research and service programs of the School, careful selection of students, and utilization of relevant strengths in other units of the University. |
