| In 1915, Yale founded one of the country's first academic programs in public health. Located within Yale University's School of Medicine, Yale Public Health is one of the nation's oldest accredited schools of public health. Yale provides a very traditional program with no distance learning or weekend classes. Through innovative teaching and research, our program prepares students to become leaders and to effectively meet the many exciting challenges in public health today and in the future. We have a low student to faculty ratio and a unique MPH core curriculum which includes a summer internship and a master's thesis. Students are trained in a variety of disciplines and afforded opportunities for research and practical experience in addressing current public health issues. Yale's interdisciplinary program in public health, with the option for a joint degree, attracts highly motivated students from across the country and around the world. Our faculty seek to advance scientific discovery and education in order to implement the most effective approaches to protect and improve the health of the public. This includes: 1) understanding the biological and behavioral characteristics of old and new diseases; 2) developing sound policies and interventions to control these diseases; and 3) strengthening our health care systems to maximize cost-effective prevention and clinical care. While our vision of public health is global in scope (with the opportunity to complete a Global Health concentration in addition to standard global opportunities) , we strive to provide prevention and care services to our local community as part of our research and teaching |
