The ASPH/USDA/FSIS Fellowship Program is part of a cooperative agreement between the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety & Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS). One of the primary purposes of this cooperative agreement is to "identify new approaches and opportunities for field experience in which graduate candidates and early career professionals with graduate degrees can practice applying skills and knowledge learned in the classroom and field."
The Association of Schools of Public Health and the USDA/FSIS Fellowship Program's purpose is to enable early career public health professionals with graduate degrees, an opportunity to round out their academic training and gain on-site public health experience. These fellows will benefit from: exposure to state-of-the-art technology and databases; acquisition of skills and knowledge to enhance their careers; and interaction with technical experts in their chosen fields.
The fellowship term is for one year with the possibility of a second year, pending the availability of funds and by mutual agreement of USDA/FSIS, ASPH, and the fellow. For this particular fellowship opportunity, the fellow will serve as a USDA/FSIS representative at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a graduate degree from an ASPH-member graduate school of public health (accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health). Applicants may still be enrolled at a SPH at the time of application, but must receive their degree prior to the expected start of the Fellowship. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or hold a visa permitting permanent residence in the U.S. (a 'Green Card') to be eligible for the Fellowship Program.
